How to choose a Linktree alternative

Published

People look for a Linktree alternative for different reasons: the price, a feature that is missing, or a page that looks like everyone else's. The right replacement depends on which of those is yours, so start with the questions rather than a ranking.

1. What exactly is missing or too expensive?

Write down the one or two things that are making you leave. A tool that is better at everything else but not at those is the wrong tool. If it is price, compare what you would pay for the features you really use, not the headline plan.

2. What does the free plan actually limit?

Free plans differ in the number of links, profiles, analytics detail and branding. Check those against how you use your page today. A free plan with a small link cap can cost more, in the end, than a cheap paid one.

3. Do you get analytics that answer your questions?

Totals are table stakes. If you want to know which platform sends engaged visitors, look for referrer and campaign tracking, and for per-link click-through rather than raw clicks.

4. Who owns the address and the audience?

A page on your own domain survives any change of tool. An email list you can export survives it too. Check that the tool supports both before you invest time in it.

5. Does it look like you?

If the page looks like every other one, visitors treat it like every other one. Compare how much you can change: backgrounds, fonts, layout and buttons, not just colours.

6. How hard is the move?

Look for an importer. Some tools, XBio included, can read a public page from Linktree, Beacons, Bio.link, Lnk.bio or Gravatar and bring across the name, bio, avatar and links. You can run both pages side by side while you decide.

7. Will you actually use the extras?

Every tool advertises features. Pick the ones you will use in the next month and ignore the rest. A long feature list is a reason to look, not a reason to switch.

Where XBio fits

If the answers above point to a page that looks distinctive, analytics, email capture or your own domain at a low price, XBio is worth a look. If your page is a simple list of links and you are happy where you are, staying put is a perfectly good answer. The comparison pages set out where each option is ahead.

Questions

Can I keep my Linktree while I try another tool?
Yes. Importing only reads your public page, so your original stays as it is until you change the link in your bio.
Is it worth paying for a link in bio tool?
Only if a paid feature solves a problem you have, such as a custom domain, deeper analytics or sending email to your subscribers. Otherwise a free plan is enough.
