What is a link in bio?

Published

A link in bio is a single web page that collects every link you want to share, placed in the one spot a social profile gives you for a link. Instead of choosing between your video, your shop and your newsletter, you point to one address and let people pick.

Why it exists

Social apps give a profile one place for a link, or a very small number of them, and they do not let you add links to individual posts in the way a website does. If you have more than one thing to share, one slot is not enough. A link in bio page solves that: the profile links to the page, and the page links to everything else.

What goes on one

  • Your most important link first: the new video, release or product.
  • Your other platforms, so a visitor can follow you where they prefer.
  • A way to stay in touch, usually a subscribe form.
  • Embeds such as a music player or your latest video, if they help.
  • A short name, photo and line about who you are.

A link in bio is not a website

A link in bio page is deliberately small. It is a signpost, not a place to publish articles or run a store. If you need several pages, a blog or a checkout, build a website and put it on the page as one of the links. Many people use both: the website for depth, the link in bio for the one link a social app allows.

What to look for in a tool

  • Whether it is free to start, and what the free plan limits.
  • How the page looks on a phone, since that is where most visitors are.
  • Analytics that show which links are clicked and where visitors came from.
  • Whether you can use your own domain, so the address is yours.
  • How easy it is to leave: can you export your data or import from another tool?

Setting one up

  1. Pick a tool and claim a short, memorable username.
  2. Add your links in priority order and write labels that say what happens.
  3. Choose how it looks and check it on a phone.
  4. Put the address in your profile on every platform you use.

Questions

Is a link in bio free?
Most tools, XBio included, have a free plan. Paid plans typically add things like custom domains, deeper analytics and extra profiles.
Do I need a website as well?
No. A link in bio page can be your only web presence if all you need is to point people to where you are. A website is for when you need more than one page.
